With the latest poster child for anti-gaming coming out tomorrow, Grand Theft Auto IV, and the recent attempts to ban or further limit gaming to children in general you would think that people would ease back on the advertisement of the violence and sex shown in the game, even if it is a game intended only for adults. You would especially think so by the large game media sites out there. Or you would until IGN decided to just let it all hang out.

Breaking the mood with a video that pretty much screams bloody violence and SKINemax Saturday night programming, IGN’s video review would have made the game something that I would shy away from if I didn’t know better. Why they’ve chosen this route with their video review while actually not saying much about the game itself is beyond me, but perhaps all those people who blame Rockstar Games should look at the people who are actually advertising the games in this manner. Because we know how effective and difficult to bypass age-gating on Web videos are…

Now, if you’re interested in a good video review of the game, GameTrailers has the best I’ve seen. Sure, there’s still age-gating on the video, but it’s pretty tame and doesn’t shove some of the more questionable elements right in your face.

As for me, I’ve got my copy of the game coming along because in this day and age open-world gaming is the new manner of expanding on character interaction with focus on player-driven gaming. I’m working on my good-two-shoes play through Two Worlds at the moment (I haven’t even stolen anything from an NPC’s room!), but will get started on GTA IV once I’m done.

Oh, and parents, don’t buy this for kids under the age of 15 and take a good look at the videos above to see if your child of age 15 or older should, in your opinion, be paying this game. Some kids mature fast, some don’t, so be active in deciding what is appropriate for them in this regard.
